1. Review General Rules.
2. 4-Hers must be currently enrolled in the 4-H Rocketry program.
3. Each exhibitor may enter two rockets per class in their division, which were
constructed during current 4-H year. Each rocket must have been flown. Each rocket
must be able to stand freely by itself or be supported on a stand or rail limited to an 8 X
8" square, 3/4" thick with the exception of display rocket class. Wooden or metal support
rods must not extend past the tip of the nose cone. Support rods must remain in the
upright position. Do not angle. No model may be submitted on a launch pad.
4. A report must accompany each rocket that is entered. The report must be limited to the
4-H Rocket Exhibit Information Form, which is glued to a 10 X 13' envelope. (Copy of
form can be obtained at the County Extension Office)
5. Plans (or a photocopy) must be placed inside the envelope. This includes original
design rockets. IF a rocket kit has been modified structurally, notations need to be given
indicating the changes made. One or more photographs of the rocket at the launch site
are required. Photographs showing the rocket at the moment of ignition are preferred.
Photographs should be mounted to one side of an 8 ½ x 11” page(s) there are to be at
least one page of photos and no more than 5 pages of photos.
6. Exhibit should be uniformly painted, smooth finished, have decals smoothly applied
and be properly constructed according to plans.
7. Rockets with factory made fin assemblies and pre-finished rockets requiring no
painting may enter the pre-assembled rocket class, but not eligible for state fair. Only
Junior Division may enter this class.
8. Engines and Igniters are not permitted with the exhibits.
9. Models may not be judged based on their paint scheme, with the exception of rockets
that fit the definition of a “scale model”. These “scale models” may be judged based on
the paint scheme. All other rockets may deviate from the suggested paint scheme,
allowing the 4-Her to display maximum creativity in the finishing of their rocket. Under
no circumstances is the weight given to the paint scheme to be sufficient enough, by
itself, to move the model from one ribbon placing to another.
10. Flight damage is to be documented by the participant. The judging of flight damage
is to be secondary to all other aspects of the model and only then may it even be
considered. However under no circumstances may flight damage be grounds for
disqualification.
11. Exhibitors will be responsible for their own rocket at the scheduled contest launch &
will agree to the rules posted at the contest.
12. Angles of fins must fall within a (+) or (-) 2 degree variation.
13. Any 4-Her over age of 9 (as of January 1 of the current year) receiving a purple
ribbon is eligible to exhibit at the Kansas State Fair.

Division A – Junior (7-8)
Not eligible for the State Fair

2099 – Prefinished rocket with no-painting and fixed fins.
2100 - Rockets made from a kit, include plans
2101 - Factory rocket kit, pre-assembled materials
2102 - Rocket designed by exhibitor, not merely a modification of an existing rocket kit.
Exhibitor must provide original drawing and plans
2103 - Rockets made from 2-Liter bottles. Will be displayed at fair and launched as part
of competitive launch

Division B – Intermediate (9-13)

2104 - Rockets made from a kit, include plans
2105 - B Scale Model Rockets made from a kit, include plans
2106 - Rocket designed by exhibitor, not merely a modification of an existing rocket kit.
Exhibitor must provide original drawings and plans
2107 - Rockets made from 2-liter bottles. Will be displayed at fair and launched as part
of competitive launch

Division C – Senior (14 and over)

2108 - Rockets made from a kit, include plans
2109 B Scale Model Rockets made from a kit, include plans
2110 - Rocket designed by exhibitor, not merely a modification of an existing rocket kit.
Exhibitor must provide original drawings and plans
2111 - Rockets made from 2-liter bottles. Will be displayed at fair and launched as part
of competitive launch
2112 - Rocket built by two or more individuals comprised of juniors, Intermediates or
seniors or any combination. This rocket can be a kit or original design
Champion and Reserve Champion in Each Division, Juniors, Intermediate and Seniors
Grand Champion and Reserve Champion Rocketry

4-H Exhibition Launch

2113 - An exhibit must have been entered in one of the previous classes. Any rocket may
be used in the event, however, the rocket must meet above class requirements. Engines
used in rocket must be type recommended by rocket manufacturers. No modifications to
install engine larger than those recommended by manufacturer will be allowed.
