GARDENING 1. Read General Rules.
2. Your display tray should be no larger than the items you are displaying. The display tray should not be decorated. All items on the tray should be of the same variety. 3. Exhibits in this division need not be mature. Efforts should be made, however, to select as mature entries as possible. 4. Quality and condition of the exhibit will be considered. Choose vegetables for exhibit that will hold up well during the Fair. Avoid over-ripe or over-mature specimens. Those that are slightly under-ripe or slightly immature when picked may last longer. 5. Exhibits must be grown by exhibitor. Exhibit consists of five different fresh vegetables. Canned vegetables are not acceptable. Only one variety of a specific vegetable may be exhibited. Project is limited to 4 square feet of space per gardening display. 2. The number of the five vegetables to be exhibited is as follows: Large Vegetables – (one each) Watermelon, Squash, Pumpkin, Eggplant, Cabbage, Cantaloupe, or similar vegetable Medium Vegetables– (five each) Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Carrots, Beets, Onions, Corn Peppers, Parsnips, Okra, Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, or similar vegetable Small Vegetables – (twelve each) Green Beans, Lima Beans, Peas 3. Your gardening display can be all from one category or you can combine some from each category. For example: 1 pumpkin, 5 cucumbers, 12 green beans, 5 tomatoes and 1 cabbage. 411 A - Garden Display - 5 different vegetables 411 Y - Garden Display - 5 different vegetables 411 S - Garden Display - 5 different vegetables 412 A – Medium vegetables 412 Y – Medium Vegetables 412 S – Medium Vegetables 413 A – Other large vegetables 413 Y – Other large vegetables 413 S – Other large vegetables Special Gardening There is only one placing per class. Example: Weird, odd or otherwise - single specimen. 414 A – Mutant Veggies 414 Y – Mutant Veggies 414 S – Mutant Veggies 415 – Largest Tomato 416 – Largest Zucchini 417 – Largest Potato 418 – Largest Cucumber Fruits 430 - Best bundle of Grapes 431 - Best display of fruit, Min. 3 Different fruits grown by exhibitor. 432 - Best display of fruit, Min. 5 of same variety Superintendent will divide classes for competition. Horticulture 1. All flower entries should be brought to the fair in disposable containers. 2. There is no limit to the number of entries an exhibitor may enter. 3. Flowers may include annuals, perennials, fresh cut flowers, African violets, etc. Note: A cooler is now available to preserve flowers 4. Exhibits must be grown by exhibitor. 5. Perennials or Annual Flowers (3 flowers to make an exhibit unless noted. Display may contain foliage to make the exhibit more attractive). 450 A – Flowers Grown from Bulbs 450 Y – Flowers Grown from Bulbs 450 S – Flowers Grown from Bulbs 451 A – Flowers Grown from Seeds 451 Y – Flowers Grown from Seeds 451 S – Flowers Grown from Seeds 452 A – Roses Single stem 452 Y – Roses Single Stem 452 S – Roses Single Stem 453 A – Floral arrangement (Use Real Vase') 453 Y – Floral arrangement (Use Real Vase') 453 S – Floral arrangement (Use Real Vase') 454 A – Hanging Baskets 454 Y – Hanging Baskets 454 S – Hanging Baskets 455 - Ornamentals (Gourds, Grasses, Bittersweet, etc.) 456 - Herbs (Best display and Arrangement) 457 - Cactus Miniature Flower Arrangement Check in at open class horticulture. This can be made with either fresh or artificial flowers. The entire arrangement can be no larger than 5” 458 – Miniature Flower Arrangement | |
