Animal Health Requirements

All Livestock, with the exception of beef steers, spayed heifers and market lambs, shall have an official health certificate issued by a veterinarian within 30 days of the Fair. NOTICE: According to the Barton County Rabies Resolution, 1992-16, all dogs, cats, ferrets and horses, must be vaccinated by a licensed veterinarian for rabies. Bucket Calf: Bucket Calves must have an official health certificate issued by a veterinarian within 30 days of the Fair.

Cattle (Dairy and Beef): Originate in and constitute a part of a certified brucellosis-free herd. Herd certification number must be entered on the health certificate. Be an official calf hood vaccinate and be less than 24 months of age for beef breeds or 20 months for dairy breeds. Vaccination tattoo symbol must appear on the health certificate and the animal must have a legible vaccination tattoo. Originate from a Kansas dairy herd that has had four consecutive current milk ring tests. Present evidence on the health certificate that the animal has been tested negative for brucellosis at an approved state/federal laboratory within 60 days of the exhibition date. All heifers including official calf hood vaccinations that are springers (expected to calve within 2 weeks) or have calved are test eligible regardless of age.

Horses: 4-H horse vaccinations certificate is due in the 4-H office by May 1, current year with the I.D. papers. 4-Hers not having these forms will not be eligible to ride in 4-H horse shows (See rabies resolution 1992-16, above).

Sheep: Due to the need for a club lamb fungus inspection, a general health certificate will not be required. All sheep will be inspected before unloading by an onsite veterinarian. All Sexually intact (Ewes & Rams) must be identified with an official USDA premise ID tag . Wethers do not need a Tag.

Swine: All swine must be accompanied by an official health certificate certifying that: Such swine are apparently free from all infectious or contagious diseases.

Dairy Goats: Animals must be free of abscesses, sore mouth and otherwise be healthy. Health certificates will be required and need to be checked by livestock chairman before unloading animals. All Sexually intact (does & Bucks) must be identified with a registered tattoo or an official USDA premise ID tag.

Dogs: All dog vaccinations (distemper, parvo, rabies) must be current, within the past 12 months, and “proof of vaccination” statement from a veterinarian must be shown as the dog is brought to the fair grounds.

Pets: Cats are to have their rabies and distemper shots before bringing them to the show, and “proof of vaccination” statement from a veterinarian must be shown as the cat is brought to the fair grounds. See rabies resolution 1992-16 above.

Poultry: All poultry, except pigeons and waterfowl, must be blood tested for Pullorum-typhoid, required every year or done at the fair grounds by a qualified individual. Any bird with a positive reaction cannot show, and must be removed from the fair grounds.

Rabbits: No diseased or unhealthy rabbit will be allowed on the fair grounds. Any unhealthy rabbit will be removed from the fair grounds.

ANIMALS WITH SORE MOUTH, LESIONS OF RINGWORM, WARTS OR INFESTED WITH MANGE WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO EXHIBIT.
